Position Responsibilities
- Serves as a liaison to Social Security Administration to monitor and maintain clients’ eligibility for benefits
- Maintains responsibility for developing and establishing an initial budget for clients (payees) and revises the budget as situations and needs change.
- Plans for, and distributes client money on a regular schedule, and pays client bills on a timely basis
- Accurately assesses bills and requests funds based on an individual’s current financial status
- Confers and negotiates with landlords, utility companies, and businesses on behalf of the client regarding payment of bills
- Coordinates with clients’ mental health providers to develop information and documentation regarding changes in clients’ situations that may impact eligibility
- Develops expertise in Supplemental Security Income and Social Security Disability Income eligibility and other related benefits (Medicaid, Medicare, Dept. of Human Services, Section 8, etc.)
- Keeps abreast of current trends and “best practices” in the field. Attends and participates in required trainings on topics relevant to the job and to behavioral healthcare
- Maintains a rigorous organizational system to track all reporting activities and outstanding issues
- Frequently completes time-sensitive reports required to maintain eligibility for programs
- Maintains the highest level of integrity and professionalism in all aspects of job performance
- Provides crisis intervention for clients when necessary
- Works as part of a team to provide a continuum of quality services
Qualifications
- Education:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university in social work, human services, or related field
- Experience:
- Professional experience in one or more of the following: nonprofit, social work, human services, budgeting, social security
- Skills:
- Highly organized with excellent time management skills, including the ability to juggle multiple projects and set priorities to meet deadlines
- Ability to work independently and solve problems
- Experience working with diverse populations
- Computer literate and working knowledge of Microsoft products and the ability to learn specialized databases and software systems.
- Must be a team player, willing to assist at all levels of the organization
- Job Type:
- Full-time – Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- Salary:
- Starting at $33,000/year depending on experience
